[fixed] Cannot connect - Connection Refused

I went to refresh my openflixr and it came up with an error of:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.1.160 refused to connect.

I have tried rebooting and it launches in virtual box, but I cannot get anything on the web. I have not changed anything at all, it just started happening.

once in a great while, it will display a page for a minute and when I click on it, it will go right back to connection refused.
Any Ideas?

When I hit f12 in google chrome, I get tons of errors and this:

  • it also looks like nginx is not running for some reason and I cannot get it started. I think that is part of my problem, but I am not sure how it just stopped and failed.

The reason Nginx isn't starting is because it can't write any logs.
I know @mediajunkie is busy with a patch, but i don't know the release.

As for now, you can fix it manually by creating a log directory yourself.

    sudo mkdir /var/log/nginx
    sudo service nginx restart

  • The error this site can't be reached problem is usually generated mostly if you don't have a connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be triggered by a dead DNS server response or a firewall blocking the Google Chrome from locating the network.  DNS is that network address that translates the website name to its internet address.  Another reason could be the firewall preventing Google Chrome to load the webpage. In order to fix this “connection” error, there are a few simple steps that you could apply, such as:

    Clear your browser cache.
Reset your IP address & flush the DNS cache.
    Check proxy settings.
    Disable your firewall.
